Yobe Literary Society, Disability Working Group celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities (Pictures)
The Yobe Literary Society (YLS), in collaboration with the Disability Working Group in Yobe State, commemorated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at Cedars Park and Recreation, Damaturu on 3rd December 2024.
The event, supported by USAID, Yobe State Government, the National Humanitarian Fund, UNDP, and other partners, was a vibrant celebration of resilience, talent, and inclusion.
The day’s activities featured a variety of sporting events that highlighted the immense potential of persons with disabilities.
From wheelchair racing to adaptive games, the participants demonstrated that, with the right support and backing, they are capable of achieving greatness in any field.
The event showcased the power of inclusivity in promoting self-confidence and breaking stereotypes.

Speaking at the event, representatives of YLS reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to fostering equality and inclusion for all. As an organisation dedicated to promoting art, culture, and entertainment, YLS vowed to continue championing initiatives that empower individuals with disabilities to express themselves creatively and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
“This event is a powerful reminder of what is possible when we embrace inclusivity and provide opportunities for everyone, regardless of ability. At YLS, we believe in a society where everyone can thrive,” a YLS spokesperson said.
The event also served as a platform to call for greater support and awareness around disability rights and accessibility in Yobe State.
YLS, alongside other members of the Disability Working Group, expressed gratitude to all the stakeholders and participants who made the event a success, emphasising the need for sustained collaboration to ensure a more inclusive society.
With its ongoing commitment to equality, art, and cultural preservation, YLS is determined to lead the charge in creating platforms for persons with disabilities to shine, inspiring hope and unity in Yobe State and beyond.
