Fubara absent from public eye as Rivers emergency rule ends
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State remains unseen nearly 24 hours after the six-month state of emergency declared over the state formally expired.
President Bola Tinubu lifted the emergency decree on 17 September 2025, reinstating Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly after six months during which governance was suspended in the state.
Though lawmakers reconvened plenary and the Sole Administrator, Vice-Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas, relinquished de facto control, Fubara and his deputy have not yet made a public return.

Supporters who had gathered at the Government House in Port Harcourt early to welcome him dispersed by mid-day after hours of waiting.
Analysts say that expectations were high following the removal of the emergency rule, which was put in place in March after escalating political conflict between Fubara and the Rivers State Assembly paralysed governance.
Vanguard reports that Fubara is expected to resume official duties on 18 September 2025, following the formal expiration of the emergency rule.
The delay in his visible reappearance has generated speculation among stakeholders and the public, with some raising concerns over whether lingering political negotiations behind the scenes are delaying a full resumption of duties.
