Edo Governor Okpebholo directs commissioners to wear Tinubu’s cap at meetings

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has directed to all members of his cabinet to wear the signature “Asiwaju” cap associated with President Bola Tinubu during executive council meetings.

Addressing newly appointed commissioners in Benin City on Tuesday, Okpebholo said the cap, which bears Tinubu’s iconic broken shackle emblem, symbolizes loyalty and unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I will not be pleased with any commissioner who fails to wear Tinubu’s Asiwaju cap. If you attend EXCO meetings without it, you may have to return,” the governor warned.

Okpebholo, who assumed office in November 2024, said the dress code was designed to promote solidarity between state and federal officials under the APC-led government.

While some supporters view the move as a show of party cohesion, critics have condemned it as unnecessary and politically excessive. Videos of the governor’s remarks have since gone viral, sparking debate among Edo residents and political observers.
