Atiku Abubakar expresses regret over role in formation of APC to oust Jonathan
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has said he regrets being among the political leaders who formed the All Progressives Congress (APC) to remove former President Goodluck Jonathan from office in 2015.
Atiku, a founding member of the APC before returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made the remark while reflecting on Nigeria’s political trajectory since the historic 2015 general elections.
The 2015 polls marked the first time an incumbent president was defeated at the ballot box in Nigeria, with Jonathan conceding defeat to the APC candidate. Atiku was part of the coalition of opposition figures who merged various parties to form the APC ahead of that election.

Speaking on the development, Atiku reportedly expressed disappointment over how events have unfolded since the party assumed power, suggesting that the original vision of the coalition had not been fully realised.
His comments are expected to stir debate within Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly as parties reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC has yet to issue an official response to Atiku’s statement.
