Gov. Adeleke formally joins Accord days after resigning from PDP
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially joined the Accord Party just days after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The governor announced his defection on Tuesday evening through a statement shared on his X social media handle.
Adeleke said the Accord Party would now serve as the new political platform for his administration and supporters across Osun West, Osun East, and Osun Central. He described the move as a strategic step toward securing victory in the August 2026 elections.
According to him, the decision to join Accord was driven by the need to continue delivering “good governance and democratic dividends” — achievements he noted have earned recognition both within and outside Nigeria. Adeleke said the party’s ideology of welfarism aligns strongly with his administration’s focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.

“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare,” he wrote. “The primary essence of government is the welfare and well-being of the people.”
The governor also welcomed the national leadership of the Accord Party to Osun, stressing the need for unity as political activities intensify ahead of the 2026 polls. He called for inclusive leadership that accommodates all interests within the party.
“Our task is to sustain a united front as we prepare for future elections,” he said. “Our party, the Accord Party, is here to take over Osun governance and sustain the delivery of good governance in our dear state.”

Adeleke had earlier resigned from the PDP in a letter addressed to the chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North LGA. He cited unresolved issues within the PDP’s national leadership as the reason for his departure
