Cuba and Colombia respond to US strikes on Venezuela
Cuba and Colombia have reacted strongly to reported United States military strikes on Venezuela, condemning the action and warning that it could further destabilise the Latin American region.
In a statement released on Monday, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel described the alleged US strikes as a violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty and international law. He accused Washington of escalating tensions in the region and called on the global community to reject what he termed “aggression” against the Venezuelan people.
Similarly, Colombian President Gustavo Petro expressed concern over the reported strikes, cautioning against unilateral military actions in Latin America. Petro warned that such operations could lead to serious humanitarian and security consequences, including displacement of civilians and heightened regional instability.

The Colombian government also called for diplomatic engagement, urging international bodies, including the United Nations, to intervene and prevent further escalation. Reports indicated that Colombian authorities were monitoring the situation closely, particularly along the country’s border with Venezuela.
The responses followed reports of US military activity targeting strategic locations in Venezuela, though full details of the strikes and any casualties have yet to be officially confirmed by Washington.
Venezuelan authorities have condemned the alleged strikes, describing them as an attack on national sovereignty, while tensions continue to rise across the region amid calls for restraint, dialogue and respect for international law.
