Residents of Umuadara community in Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, have called for justice following the gruesome killing of a female nursing student, Wendy Achumba.

The deceased, who hailed from Ngwa in Abia State, was a student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, where she had completed her Midwifery programme and was undergoing her Post Basic studies.

Reports indicated that Wendy was found beheaded in her private off-campus apartment after neighbours became alarmed when she failed to come out of her room or respond to repeated calls.

Concerned residents reportedly forced the door open and discovered her lifeless body with visible signs of violence. Blood stains were also seen around the apartment, while her mobile phone was said to be missing after the incident.

The development threw the community into mourning and sparked outrage among residents and students, many of whom described the killing as barbaric and shocking.

“She was calm, peaceful and focused on her studies. Nobody expected something like this to happen,” a resident said.

The incident also triggered tension in the area as youths and residents demanded immediate action from security agencies to identify and arrest those behind the killing.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, said the Command had commenced investigation into the matter.

According to him, police operatives visited the scene after receiving reports of the incident, while the body of the deceased was evacuated to the morgue for further examination.

The police spokesperson assured residents that efforts were ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Authorities have appealed to members of the public to remain calm and support ongoing investigations with useful information that could assist security operatives.
