Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Danladi secured victory at the party’s governorship primary election after defeating other aspirants in the contest conducted across the state.
Announcing the results in Ilorin, the chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and returning officer for the exercise declared Danladi winner after polling the highest number of votes cast during the primary.

According to the official results, Danladi scored 94,990 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki, who secured 41,700 votes, while Bashir Bolarinwa polled 22,118 votes.
His emergence followed days of political consultations and alignments within the Kwara APC ahead of the primary election.
The exercise had earlier been postponed amid reports of internal disagreements among party stakeholders before it was eventually conducted.
Danladi, popularly known as “SYD,” currently serves as Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, a position he has occupied since 2019.
Following the announcement of the results, supporters of the APC candidate celebrated across parts of the state, describing his emergence as a major development ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State.
With his victory at the primary election, Danladi is now expected to fly the flag of the APC in the forthcoming governorship poll as political activities continue to gather momentum across the state.
