At least 10 persons, mostly elderly and youths were killed and 27 seriously injured when a pickup truck carrying goods and passengers lost control and veered into a ditch along Fika-Potiskum road, in Yobe State yesterday night.
The victims were all rescued by the Marshals of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Potiskum unit command.
The injured were all admitted and are currently receiving treatment at the General hospital, Potiskum.
The victims (dead and survivors) were returning from Dogo Abare Market and were on their way to their hometown, Potiskum, according to the Driver of the vehicle, Malam Lawandi.
Explaining how the accident happened, the driver of the truck said; “After overtaking a vehicle my steering tyre rod developed a problem and I lost control”, he said.
The Federal Road Safety Marshals had to struggle to pull the bodies out from the mangled vehicles.
On learning about the incident, relatives of the victims who are mostly residents of Gadan Talakawa and Arara Biyu, Potiskum rushed to the spot.
