Leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Nigeria Union Teachers and Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) will on Tuesday meet with the Minister of State for FCT, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, to deliberate on the delay in payment of the new minimum wage to primary school teachers by the six area councils.
City News had reported that the executives of NUT had last Tuesday, met with the six area council chairmen in Abuja, but that the meeting, presided over by the Area Councils Services Commission (ACSC) board chairman, Alhaji Isah Ramat, ended in a deadlock.
The chairman of FCT wing of NUT, Comrade Stephen Knabayi, who disclosed this to our reporter in a telephone interview, yesterday, said the meeting was at the instance of the minister and it would deliberate on the teachers’ new minimum wage.
He said the non-payment of the new minimum wage to primary school teachers by the council chairmen despite the union exhausting all avenues for negotiations was disappointing.
“Actually, we are mobilising all the labour leaders and executives to be part of the meeting with the Minister of State, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, and the area council chairmen will also be in attendance to discuss further on the new minimum wage,” he said.
