The provision of a clean environment is important for the well being of both human and animal as well as essential for the development of any society, as the common adage that says health is wealth.
In his determination to create a clean and healthy environment, the Executive Chairman of Potiskum LGA, Hon. Salisu Mukhtari has embarked on the Community Centred Environmental Sanitation Approach (CCES) which focused on community participation towards the upkeep of a clean environment. Under this approach, each resident or shop owner will clean the surrounding and the drainage in front of his/her property.
It is worthy to note that meeting the challenges of providing adequate sanitation services in communities is not only the responsibility of the government but also, the communities must be involved in maintaining a clean environment.
However, many of our people feel it is the responsibility of the government to clean their environment as they do not realize that poor sanitation as a result of indiscriminate dumping of refuse in our environment impacts negatively on our communities with consequent flooding and infestation of diseases such as diarrhoea and cholera.
Therefore, the need for a community-driven approach towards a sustainable clean and healthy environment is important especially in Potiskum being the economic hub of Yobe State.
I personally welcome the Chairman’s initiative which will instil a great sense of discipline and patriotism in the hearts of residents in complementing the government’s efforts in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
We all have a role to play towards the provision of a clean environment and the effort by the Executive Chairman of Potiskum LGA will go a long way in maintaining a safer and cleaner environment of which we shall all be proud of, as our strength and progress depend upon our collective sacrifice, perseverance, self-denial, hard work, dedication and respect for authority.
We are once more proud of Hon. Salisu Mukhtari’s efforts to maintain a healthy and clean environment in Potiskum Local Government Area and let us all support him and pray for his continued success.
