NYSC DG lauds FG, T.Y Danjuma Foundation for providing COVID, HIV testing kits at camps

Story from Najib SANI, Bauchi

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has lauded the federal government for providing adequate testing kits for COVID 19 screening at the NYSC camps nationwide.

Ibrahim who made the commendation Tuesday during the opening ceremony of the 2021 orientation course for batch B, stream II corps members in Yobe state said the NYSC management made it compulsory for its officials, members and visitors to be screened for COVID 19 before admission into any camp.

He explained that the measure is in line with the NYSC’s commitment to contain the spread of the virus and ensure its corps members remain hale and hearty throughout their service years.

Represented by the Yobe state coordinator of the scheme, Mrs Hafsat Yerima, the NYSC DG lauds the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) and T.Y Danjuma Foundation for the donation of HIV testing kits to the scheme.

The NYSC boss told the members that they were deliberately assembled from diverse ethnic, religious and regional backgrounds to enable them to begin the performance of their patriotic roles in the promotion of national unity and integration.

“Accordingly, I encourage you to ensure healthy interactions, exchange ideas that will broaden your understanding of the country and build lasting friendships.

“Interestingly, the content of the NYSC oath has also influenced the guiding principles of many patriotic Nigerians, years after their participation in the National Service. In the same vein, I advise you to familiarize yourselves with the content of both the NYSC Act and the NYSC Bye-Laws”. He told the members.

Our correspondent reports that a total number of 864 new corps members have been registered in the state.
