NGO, women group advocates GBV free society in Bauchi

Women of Wuntin Dada and Miri in Bauchi state took to the streets carrying placards and chanting songs to buttress their point of a society that is free of gender-based violence.
The peaceful rally is to draw support and enlighten community members about the ills of Gender-based Violence which they say is a source of worry to many homes.
These women and girls in their numbers have been trained on GBV mentoring, peer education and how to protect themselves and their families by a non-governmental organization, Aid Connect for Development with support from Action Aid Canada in collaboration with Fahimta women.
Executive Director Of Aid Connect for Development Habiba Agufoh said the five-year project targets males and females from three years and above, and has, so far, reached over a thousand women in these two communities.

Habiba said they are adopting this approach because people who are victims of GBV don’t speak out and society keeps blaming the victims instead of the culprit.
she added that she envisages that with time, capacity building can bring about positive change.
“Gender-based Violence requires a collective approach to be tackled, it needs all key players playing their role collectively”.
