Zamfara Attack: Death toll rises to 200 as Governor Matawalle visits areas

Worried by the recent discovery of 200 bodies that were killed and dumped in the bush by bandits in Zamfara State, the state Governor Bello Matawalle has visited the headquarters of Anka and Bukkuyum where it was alleged that Bello Turji and his men have relocated.

The Director-General on media Ibrahim Zauma, in a statement, said the Governor in company with Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs in the state Alhaji Faika Muhammad has dispatched relief materials to the Internally displaced persons in Bukkuyum and Anka Local Government Areas. Similarly, the state Governor also visited those on admission in various hospitals.

Neptune Prime recalls that bandits stormed and burnt 5 villages in Anka and Bukkuyum Local Government Areas on Tuesday and Wednesday leaving behind several bodies in the bush of innocent villagers killed by the bandits. Some bodies of the villagers were mutilated.

According to reports, the bandits came on motorcycles about 500 of them with very sophisticated weapons and killed whoever they found and later set the villages ablaze.

The IDPs who escaped the attack, have been camped in the facilities of the 3 primary schools and the secondary school in town as well as the Palace of the Emir of Anka with former Deputy Governor of the State Muntari Ahmad said to be providing food for the displaced persons.

Governor Bello Matawalle, who had to sack some Emirs when he became Governor newly on the allegations that they were working hand in hand with the bandits has vowed to revisit the report and see if there are other areas he needs to implement.

Meanwhile, a prominent General which officials of the state government are accusing of gold mining in the area and having complete protection from the bandits, may be reported to the presidency to invite him for questioning over his mining activities in Zamfara forest.
