ACF, CAN condemn renewed killings in Plateau communities

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has demanded a declaration of a state of emergency on security in vulnerable communities across northern Nigeria, following renewed attacks in Plateau state.

The call comes amidst growing concerns over the escalating violence and insecurity in the region.

“We are ineffably saddened by the disheartening and frightening attacks by terror gangs on defenceless communities in Plateau State.

“We call on the FGN to declare a state of security emergency in vulnerable and banditry-prone communities and to initiate effective early-warning and early-response strategies that incorporate the participation of community members,” said Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba, National Publicity Secretary of ACF.

Similarly, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) have also condemned the violence, calling for increased security measures and accountability.

“We are deeply pained by the latest wave of violence that has claimed the lives of over 50 persons across communities such as Mangor, Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai,” said Rev John Hayab.
AYCF President-General Alhaji Yerima Shettima added, “We at AYCF express our deepest sympathy to the families of the victims and the affected communities who have suffered irreparable losses. The pain and trauma caused by such violence cannot be understated, and it is a reminder of the urgent need for comprehensive security reforms.”

Responding to the raging violence, the National Security Adviser (NSA) disclosed that Nigeria has achieved over 90% improvement in security, with a significant reduction in violence and deaths.

“The country is going through difficult times, but is not going to be forever.

“President Bola Ahmad Tinubu is saying enough is enough, it has to stop, whatever it takes, whatever we have done to achieved relative improvements, we will do more, we will continue to do whatever it takes to ensure there will be peace, (and) security so that our people will leave normal life,” said NSA Ribadu.
