Adamawa partners UNICEF to tackle violence against children

The Adamawa State Government has commended the United Nations Children Funds on improved efforts to combat child abuse and violation of children’s rights.

Speaking on Friday in Yola, at a capacity building training workshop on Child Protection in Humanitarian Action, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Neido Geoffrey Kufulto, stated that UNICEF has assisted the state in various sectors to improve the lives of the people.

She further said that international organisation has sustained efforts at increasing enrollment of girls in schools and training of teachers to improve the quality of teaching in Adamawa schools.

Kufulto disclosed that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri was the first governor in the North to sign the Child Protection Act as a law.

“The child protection law is the official position of the Adamawa government that disregard for children’s rights, which is unacceptable and punishable,” she stressed.

However, the law aims to safeguard the rights of children by preventing and addressing molestation of children and gender-based violence.
