Armed bandits kill 20 farmers, injure others in Zamfara village attack

Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano

Armed bandits in Zamfara State have launched a brutal attack, killing 20 farmers and leaving many others injured.

It has been reported that the kidnappers had initially planned to abduct some of the farmers but were unsuccessful.

Upon the arrival of a group of gunmen believed to be armed terrorists, the initial kidnappers fled the scene.

The attack took place in the Gidan Goga area of Maradun Local Government Area, resulting in the tragic loss of over 20 farmers’ lives.

A resident from the region, who requested anonymity, revealed during a telephone conversation with the press that the bandits targeted the farmers while they were engaged in their farming activities.

“When the farmers became aware of the danger, they quickly attempted to flee in order to save their lives. However, the bandits opened fire on them, ruthlessly claiming the lives of 22 individuals,” the resident disclosed.

The resident further added, “These dreaded terrorists have threatened to unleash horrific attacks on our community. We urgently appeal to all relevant authorities to swiftly come to our aid before the situation spirals out of control.”

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP. Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident.

However, he stated that nine people were killed, while five others sustained gunshot injuries and were currently receiving medical treatment.

The police spokesperson emphasized that a combined anti-terrorism team had been deployed to the area, working towards restoring a semblance of normalcy.

The ruthless attack on the farmers by suspected terrorists has sent shockwaves throughout Zamfara State, highlighting the urgent need for heightened security measures and swift action from the government to ensure the safety and protection of its citizens.
