Bandits re-abduct union chairman 60 days after he regained freedom

Terrorists have abducted chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Kidandan village of Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The bandits also took three children of a health worker in the village when they stormed around 9:30pm on Saturday.

The chairman, identified as Tasiu Habibu, was recently released by the bandits after spending about 60 days in their custody. He regained freedom after ransom payment.

A resident of the town, Sanusi Kidandan, who confirmed the incident said most of the villagers couldn’t sleep due to gunshots.

“The father of the three children is a neighbour of the chairman, they only took the children, all minors, including the chairman, making four people in total. The abductors shot sporadically during the invasion. They came around 9:30 PM,” he said.

According to him, one villager, Idris Jibril, who was shot by the bandits, was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

There has been no official statement from the state government or the police. The state Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, is yet to issue a statement on the incident.
