Bandits slaughter 35 hostages after families fail to pay ₦35m
In Zamfara State’s Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area, bandits have reportedly killed 35 kidnapped victims in Banga village after their families failed to pay a ₦35 million ransom.
The victims were among 53 villagers abducted months ago, with the bandits demanding ₦1 million per captive.
According to Sani Suleiman, a resident of Banga village, 18 victims who paid the ransom were freed, while the remaining 35 were executed. Suleiman described the ordeal as devastating, saying those who returned told of witnessing the brutal slaughter of the 35 victims.

The village is currently under the control of the armed group, and Suleiman appealed to the state government for security assistance to prevent further attacks and displacement of residents.
The Zamfara State Government is aware of the incident, but the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Ahmed Danmanga, couldn’t confirm the exact number of victims. He assured that mobile police units have been deployed to the area to prevent further attacks and emphasized the government’s efforts to protect citizens from banditry.
“We are working tirelessly to provide maximum protection, but we’re handicapped due to inadequate security personnel,” Danmanga said.
