Bauchi police bust kidnapping ring, apprehend seven

Story from Ahmad SAKA, Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended seven individuals suspected of being involved in kidnapping activities that have been causing terror among residents of Alkaleri Local Government Area.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, who issued a statement to the press in Bauchi, the members of the arrested kidnap syndicate are Isah Gambo (25), Hamza Ali (26), Ali Isyaku (27), Danlami Isyaku (30), Abubakar Isyaku (25), Adamu Alh. Lado (30), and Usman Dan Asibi, alias Na Mansur (30). All suspects hail from Mansur and Papa Yalo villages.

Wakil stated that preliminary investigations have linked the aforementioned suspects to the notorious kidnappings plaguing the Alkaleri community and surrounding areas.

During the police operation, raids and searches were conducted at various hideouts, resulting in the recovery of prohibited firearms. The seized weapons include a locally-made revolver pistol, a locally-made AK-47 rifle, a locally-made fabricated pistol, and a locally-made pump-action firearm.

“The suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crimes, and a discreet investigation is underway. Once the investigation is concluded, the suspects will be charged and brought before the court for prosecution,” Wakil confirmed.

He further mentioned that the Bauchi State Police Command collaborated with a quasi-security outfit, the Professional Hunters, to carry out sustained operations against identified black spots and kidnappers’ hideouts in Babarko village via Pali District, as well as Yalo Karekare and Digare PAPA villages via Gwana District.

In a related incident on July 14, 2023, a commercial motorcyclist named Saleh Ahmadu reported an attack in which two unidentified individuals boarded his motorcycle and assaulted him with an iron rod, attempting to steal his vehicle.

Ahmadu immediately raised an alarm, attracting nearby people who came to his rescue. This prompted the suspects to abandon the motorcycle and flee the scene.

The police swiftly responded to the situation and arrested Munkailu Haruna (22) from Gandiyel village in Itas-Gadau LGA in connection with the incident. Upon the suspect’s arrest, the police recovered a knife, the iron rod used in the crime, and a bag.

Investigations into the matter are currently ongoing, and further updates will be provided in due course.
