The Bauchi State Police Commissioner, Sylvester Abiodun Alabi, on Thursday, compensated a reporter with the African Independent Television (AIT), Nagari Damina Yusuf who was assaulted and wounded by some officers attached to the Rapid Response Squad while on official duty three weeks ago.

The police attack on the journalist incurred the wrath of media in the state with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) directing media blackout on the police.
The police boss presented a new laptop computer, two smartphones and a camera lost by the AIT reporter during the incident.
Abiodun commended the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state for abandoning its planned street demonstration against the action of the police following his sympathy visit to the union’s secretariat.
He also appealed to the union to lift the ban on the coverage of the Nigeria police activities in the state so that their operations could be publicized.
Abiodun reiterated the readiness of the command to work harmoniously with journalists for the good of the people of the state.
Responding, the chairman of the NUJ in Bauchi state Umar Sa’id lauded the police commissioner for his concern for the plight of the victim and for redeeming his pledge to give compensations.
He assured that the union would convene a meeting with the state executive council with a view to reviewing the embargo imposed on the police.
