Death sentence should be passed on Hanifa’s killer – Former Kano emir, Sanusi

Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano

Former Emir of Kano and one time Central Bank Governor, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has called on Kano State governor to direct Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to order for the immediate killing of Abdulmalik Tanko and his two accomplices for the way and manner they killed 5-year-old Hanifa Abubakar.

“What are we looking for? the man confessed to taking the victim to his house, accepted that he killed her, accepted that he mutilated her body, and similarly, accepted that he buried her in a shallow grave after collecting the sum of three million naira from her parents”.

The former Emir added that there is no evidence more than this that will be presented to Court, his wife that is one of his accomplices and his friends have accepted that the girl was in their house for two weeks before she was killed with rat poison. The other accused confessed that he was the one that dug the grave and buried her, so what are we going to the court to prove? I think if there is justice in this country, Abdulmalik Tanko and his co-travellers should be summarily killed, according to Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who is the leader of Tijjaniyya in Nigeria.

In a related development, the Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has in a statement revealed that if the court passed a death sentence on those being accused of killing little Hanifa Abubakar, he will quickly sign the verdict for Abdulmalik to be killed without wasting time.

“The accused has never said he has a mental problem, and even when he was charged to court, he did not plead for leniency or argue that he was under the influence of other substance when he committed the offence, as such, I will be eager to send the judgment papers for him to be summarily executed when the issue comes to my table,” Governor Ganduje noted.
