FCT police arrest school owner following explosion at Islamiyya school
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested Malam Adamu Ashimu, the owner of Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Bwari Area Council, after a tragic explosion occurred on the school’s premises on Monday.
FCT police spokesperson Josephine Adeh reported that two visitors lost their lives when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated while they were handling it on the school’s veranda.
A third person, along with a female trader, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment under police supervision.

Emergency responders acted swiftly after a distress call from the Sarki of Kuchibuyi. A team, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit and the Area Commander of Kubwa, swiftly arrived at the scene, securing the area to facilitate a thorough investigation. “The victims were quickly evacuated and taken to the hospital for necessary medical care,” Adeh stated.
Initial investigations indicated that the three men, all hailing from Katsina, had visited Ashimu at the Islamic school, with suspicions that they brought the explosive device with them.
Unfortunately, two of the men perished in the incident, while the third and a female snack vendor were injured.
Bwari Area Council Chairman, John Gabaya, confirmed one death due to the explosion, alongside three injuries, including that of the local snack vendor.
“The explosion occurred while she was nearby, resulting in her injuries,” he explained. Gabaya further revealed that the police had begun questioning Mallam Ashimu after allegations surfaced regarding the involvement of children he had brought from Katsina in the incident.
In the wake of the explosion, the FCT Emergency Management Department dispatched search and rescue teams to the site for further assessment and reporting.
