Alhaji Ardo Ahmadu, the North-West zonal chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association has declared that they would only vote a politician n 2019 on condition that he will defend and protect their interest.
Ahmadu was addressing newsmen after an awareness congress of the Association in Kaduna.
The awareness gathering organised by the association is to enlighten the cattle breeders on the need to ensure that all Fulanis acquire voters’ cards as the strength of negotiation with any interested politician.
Ardo Ahmadu added that most of their people have been displaced due to recurrent crises for which they find it necessary to call them together and enlighten them on the need to take a proactive step towards rehabilitating themselves.
The chairman explained the need for the Fulanis to ensure they also acquire the National Identity Cards reiterating that it is very important and would ease their activities.
He complained that the Fulanis have been pushed into undue poverty as a result of cow rustling and attacks they have suffered in recent times and the government has refused to do anything to alleviate the situation. Hence they have to have a written document with any politician they would support before they can vote for him in 2019.
In his own address, making reference to the recent incident at Kajuru, the Kaduna state chairman of the association Alhaji Haruna Usman Tugga exclaimed the injustice done to them after their people have been killed without any hope from the government.
Further expressing his disappointment over the neglect they have faced from the government regarding their situation, the state chairman added that their two million votes in the state will go to only one politician that would promise to protect their lives and property irrespective of his political affiliation.
