How 18-year-old Taraba girl was raped, murdered by criminal gang (Photos)
Unknown assailants have committed a heinous crime, gang-raping and brutally murdering an 18-year-old girl named Wassa Joel Tuwa in Yorro Local Government Area of Taraba state.
According to reports by LIB, the lifeless body of the young girl was discovered on Sunday morning, July 30, 2023, by the roadside in Lankavirir village, near Jalingo, behind a mountain. The shocking incident has left the community in deep sorrow and outrage.

Speaking on the tragic incident, a family source identified as Mr. Ayuba Solomon Bissa confirmed the heartbreaking news. He revealed that Wassa had left their family house in Jalingo on Saturday evening to visit Lankavirir, but little did she know that this journey would be her last.
Ayuba shared, “My younger sister (Wassa) left our family house here along Bishop’s coat Jalingo to the village in Lankavirir on Saturday, where the killers met her. Until Sunday morning, when a little boy who was hawking firewood discovered her lifeless body by the roadside and ran back to inform his parents of what he saw.
Both the boy’s parents and other residents moved to the scene and discovered it was the lifeless body of my younger sister, Wassa.”
The grief-stricken family immediately sought assistance from the authorities. Ayuba explained, “We did not touch her; we invited the security personnel operating in the area to see and advise on what to do.
The security men, comprising of the military and the police, came and advised us to convey the corpse to the mortuary and allow for a security investigation.”
A medical autopsy later confirmed that Wassa had been subjected to gang-rape before her tragic death. Ayuba heartrendingly shared this painful detail, saying, “After conducting the necessary tests, the doctor confirmed to us that the victim was gang-raped before she was killed.”
Expressing his plea for justice, Ayuba appealed to the security operatives to thoroughly investigate the case and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The laying to rest of the young victim took place on Tuesday morning, as the community mourns the loss of an innocent life.
