Imposter posing as minister’s son arrested for fraud in Adamawa
The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man named Ahmed Mohammed for impersonating the son of the Minister of Police Affairs and allegedly defrauding Munete Benson Atanga from Sangere Futy.
Ahmed is accused of deceiving Atanga and Hasiya Hamman, fraudulently obtaining a total of N5,152,400 and N870,000 from them, respectively.
The case was presented before Chief Magistrate Alheri Ishaku at Court I.
Atanga, in her letter of complaint to the Commissioner of Police dated December 9, 2022, explained that she encountered Ahmed on June 1, 2022, while traveling from Mubi roundabout to Sangere Futy.
Ahmed introduced himself as the biological son of the Minister of Police Affairs and asked for her phone number, claiming he could assist her.
According to Atanga, the defendant provided her with two different Zenith Bank account numbers, each bearing a different name, and one FCMB account number with yet another name.
During the court proceedings, Ahmed pleaded guilty to all the charges and requested bail from Magistrate Alheri.
However, Inspector Nicholas objected to the bail application, citing the police report that the defendant was not a first-time offender.
He argued that granting bail could potentially expose other innocent citizens to become victims of the defendant’s fraudulent activities.
In response to the application, Magistrate Alheri Ishaku denied bail and ordered the defendant to be remanded at a correctional centre.
The case was adjourned until May 24, 2023.
