Borno state governor, Babagana Zulum, has revealed that the whereabouts of more than 10 per cent of the state’s population is unknown due to the insurgency that has been ravaging the state for years.
Zulum disclosed this while speaking to state house correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari today August 24.
The governor said more than 100,000 people have been killed in the last 12 years of the insurgency.
The Governor said he discussed the report of Boko haram terrorists surrendering to troops with President Buhari, Zulum added that there is no reason for the repentant terrorist to be rejected in the society.
Zulum also said there are a total of 2,600 surrendered insurgents now in custody, emphasizing that not all of them are criminals, as some of the insurgents were forced to join the terrorists or risk being killed.
The governor added that even though he supports the actions of the insurgents dropping their arms, it should be clear that the Borno state government was not contemplating giving the repentant terrorists any dine for them to surrender.
