Kano govt suspends 3 hospital staff over surgical error that led to patient’s death

The Kano State Government has suspended three hospital staff members following a surgical mistake that resulted in the death of a patient at a public health facility.

The affected staff were placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident, which occurred during a routine procedure. Government officials described the error as “unacceptable” and said steps are being taken to determine how the mistake occurred and who is responsible.

In a statement, the Kano State Ministry of Health said the suspension is part of efforts to uphold medical standards and ensure accountability in public hospitals. The ministry also assured the public that patients’ safety remains a top priority and that corrective measures will be implemented to prevent similar incidents.

The identity of the deceased patient has not been disclosed, but sources said the surgery was initially intended to address a treatable condition.
