Kano State Government has disclosed that it would spend over N4.6 billion yearly to feed 50,000 of its public boarding students in the state.
This was made known by the Commissioner for Education, Mohammadu Kiru, on Yesterday as he marked one year in office.
Kiru added that the state Executive Council has approved the review of the feeding fees of students for contractors request in view of the hike in food items in the state.
He further added that the current administration is also spending N93 million on the feeding of students of Bi-lingual College, Niamey, Niger Republic, while another N107 million will be spent on public schools who are resuming school soon.
“We reviewed the rate of feeding for our boarding schools. A proposal was submitted to the State Executive Council and I am happy to inform you that in Kano, we are going to spend N4.66 billion for the feeding of our boarding students. This is a laudable achievement, as no state in Nigeria is spending such a huge amount of money,” Kiru said.
According to him, and academic activities would commence at the five new mega unity schools in each of the five emirates in the state such as Rano, Kano, Gaya, Karaye and Bichi on January 2021 with 303 students in each of the schools.
