Lagos court sentences man to life imprisonment for defiling 8-year-old

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Lagos State has sentenced a schoolteacher, John Osifo, to life imprisonment for defiling an eight-year-old pupil under his care.

Delivering the judgment on Monday, Justice Rahman Oshodi emphasised that the prosecution successfully established the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The judge condemned Osifo for betraying the trust placed in him, taking advantage of the child’s vulnerability.

Critical to the court’s decision were the survivor’s heartfelt testimony, corroborating evidence provided by her mother, and a medical examination that confirmed the absence of a hymen.

“This heinous act betrayed the trust reposed in the convict as a teacher,” Justice Oshodi said.

“John Osifo, the severity of your offense cannot be overstated.
