Major General Abdul One Mohammed: A distinguished officer, seasoned administrator, and “Commander of Peace”
Major General Abdul One Mohammed (also known as Abdul Aziz One Mohammed) was a prominent Nigerian military officer and administrator known for his leadership in both domestic governance and international peacekeeping.
Born on February 15, 1948, in Akuyam, Misau, Bauchi State, he attended the Nigerian Military School, Zaria (1962–1966) and the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna (1966–1969).
Name Origin
The name “Abdul One” originated during his school days to distinguish him from another student with the same name; he maintained the moniker throughout his military career as it was reflected in his official documents.

He was the Military Governor of Borno State, appointed by General Ibrahim Babangida. He served as the military governor from December 1987 to December 1989.
ECOMOG Leadership: In 1997, he was posted to the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) as Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff, overseeing major peacekeeping operations in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
He was the Deputy Defence Attaché at the Nigerian Embassy in Moscow (1986–1988).
He was the Brigade Commander of the 34 Self-Propelled Artillery Brigade and the Military Secretary of the Nigerian Army.
Legacy and Reputation
“The Silent Enforcer”: He was widely respected as a “Commander of Peace” who enforced stability during turbulent periods in West Africa. He was married with six children.

He is frequently distinguished from Major General Abdullahi Mohammed, who served as Nigeria’s first Presidential Chief of Staff and died in late 2025.
