Mentally ill son intoxicated with hard drugs stabs father to death

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State has apprehended Alkasim Ya’u, a 25-year-old man, for the alleged stabbing to death of his father in the Tudun Yola ‘C’ area of Gwale Local Government Area.

The NSCDC Corps Commandant, Mohammed Falala, revealed in a telephone interview that the incident occurred on Friday around 13:30 hours at the residence of Alhaji Salisu Bala.

According to Falala, the deceased father, Alhaji Ya’u Mohammed, had taken his mentally ill son to Psychiatric Hospital Dawanau for medical treatment, with a scheduled appointment to see a doctor on Saturday, January 6. Instead of returning to Katsina, the father decided to stay at his brother’s house at the same address.

Investigations by the NSCDC indicate that Alkasim’s mental illness was attributed to his involvement in hard drug activities.

Upon their arrival at Tudun Yola, the mentally ill son attacked his father with a sharp object.

NSCDC operatives in the area intervened, transporting the victim to the hospital and arresting the suspect.

The family is arranging for the deceased’s body to be returned to Katsina for burial, while the suspect and relevant evidence are in the custody of the Rijiyar Zaki Divisional Police Office for further investigation.
