Millions lost as fire razes another market

A devastating fire swept through the Agodi Mayegun Cement Store Market in Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital, on Thursday night, destroying 12 shops and property valued at millions of naira.

The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed this via a statement issued on Friday, April 11, 2025.
Akinyinka said the fire service received a distress call about the inferno through a telephone call from one Mr Young.

Akinyinka noted that firefighters were quickly deployed to the scene and they swung into action, preventing the fire from spreading to more shops.

Akinyinka said efforts of the firefighters saved property worth billions of naira from destruction.
