Negligence is the primary factor that led to the spread of Cholera in some IDP camps in Borno.
This was observed by the Coordinator of Smile Mission Health Care, Doctor Saleh Abba in Maiduguri during the Organization’s free feeding mission to over 10,000 children in Muna camp.
“From the perspective of emergency intervention, the camp has been neglected as a result, we decided to come and intervene, he explained.
Doctor Abba said the Camp is facing challenges of health as a result of a shortage of toilets as well.
“There are numerous challenges facing this camp, some of them are health related challenges while others are psychosocial problems,” he revealed.
The organisation, he said, has carefully selected children as beneficiaries of their intervention because of peculiar problems facing them which are five child killer diseases.
A member of the organisation, a Nurse, Kalthum Ibrahim Jidda said the displaced people lacked proper hygiene knowledge, hence their intervention.
Another member, Doctor Hadiza Isa Ladu said, Smile Mission Medical Health Care, has a professional team of medical personnel that offers free medical services to displaced and vulnerable among members of the society.
According to her, the area they intervene includes; treating common illnesses, basic dental care, obstetrics, and gynecology.
Other services they render include psychosocial trauma counselling, sensitisation on sanitation and hygiene in the camp and host communities.
The children were full of gratitude to Smile Mission Health Care.
Some of them promised to make use of the knowledge gained for the purpose intended.
