Nigeria Not Another Iraq or Libya: Dr. Hassan Gimba Warns Against Western “Imperial Agenda”

In an exclusive interview with South Africa’s Salaamedia, veteran Nigerian journalist and publisher, Dr. Hassan Gimba, warned that Western powers, particularly the United States, may be positioning to destabilise Nigeria under the guise of humanitarian concern, citing patterns similar to interventions in Iraq, Libya, and Syria.
Dr. Gimba, Publisher and CEO of Neptune Prime and former editor at Leadership newspaper, argued that global attention on Nigeria’s religious tensions and security crisis is being “strategically weaponised” by foreign interests aiming to exploit the country’s vast mineral wealth and geopolitical influence.

“”The world is becoming multipolar, unlike what we’ve been witnessing in the past four decades or so and normally America, whose influence is diminishing and it’s losing out, wouldn’t want that and so what it is doing now is more like the last kicks of a dying horse,” he said, adding that the West historically manufactures moral narratives before intervening in resource-rich nations.
“Christian Genocide” Narrative Critiqued
Responding to viral social media posts alleging targeted attacks on Christians in Nigeria, Dr. Gimba insisted both Muslims and Christians are victims of extremist violence:
“Nothing is happening to Christians that is not happening to Muslims. Boko Haram has killed more Muslims than Christians. Many families in Nigeria are mixed faith you cannot separate us.”
He suggested the sudden Western concern for Nigerian Christians intensified after Nigeria’s Vice President highlighted the Gaza crisis at the United Nations:

“It was after Nigeria spoke for peace in Gaza that the campaign escalated. This is distraction a political tool.”
U.S. Interests and the Sahel Question
Dr. Gimba linked current pressure on Nigeria to its diplomatic alignment with emerging global blocs such as BRICS and its growing cooperation with China.
He also referenced recent U.S. congressional discussions where U.S. funding to extremist groups in the Sahel was implied:
“It was revealed that America was giving Boko Haram money. So when they say they come to save Christians who created Boko Haram?”
He added that destabilising Nigeria could serve as a gateway for interference in Sahel states now aligned with Russia and China.
Dangote, Resources and Imperial Calculus
While acknowledging Nigeria’s massive oil and mineral reserves, including lithium discoveries, Dr. Gimba dismissed claims that the Dangote refinery alone is a trigger:
“This is not about Dangote. This is about Nigeria’s foreign policy stance and strategic position. It is about our voice on global justice and our role in Africa.”

Warning to Nigerian Citizens
Dr. Gimba urged Nigerians to reject sectarian manipulation:
“We have no country but Nigeria. If we allow ourselves to be deceived, we will suffer. Once chaos begins, no bullet will choose Christian or Muslim everyone loses.”
He cautioned that foreign destabilisation typically results in long-term humanitarian catastrophe:
“Look at Iraq, look at Libya a father in an IDP camp does not know where his children are.”
Call for Unity
He called on Nigerians particularly Christians to critically assess geopolitical narratives and stand for national unity:
“If they love you, they would ask you to freely come to their country not to destroy yours. Our differences can be discussed. Unity is our strongest defence.”
Salaamedia Statement
Salaamedia’s host affirmed solidarity with Nigerians and Africans resisting foreign manipulation and thanked Dr. Gimba:
“This is a time for global 99% solidarity against imperial aggression,” the presenter said.
