PDP leaders enlist Obasanjo for 2027 comeback strategy

Story by Okafor VivianĀ

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reportedly reached out to former President Olusegun Obasanjo as part of efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sources within the party said senior PDP figures recently consulted Obasanjo to seek his guidance, support, and influence in rebuilding internal unity and strengthening the party’s chances of returning to power. The former president is believed to have emphasized the need for discipline, credible leadership, and a clear policy direction.

The move comes amid ongoing internal challenges within the PDP, including leadership disputes and defections, which party stakeholders say must be resolved to mount a strong challenge in 2027.

Although Obasanjo is not a card-carrying member of the PDP, his historical role in the party’s formation and his influence in national politics make him a key figure in the party’s strategic calculations.

PDP leaders expressed optimism that consultations with elder statesmen and key stakeholders would help reposition the party and restore public confidence ahead of the next election cycle.
