Since then, there has been much talk on social media implicating singer Naira Marley and Sam Larry in Mohbad’s unfortunate passing. However, Naira Marley, who is currently abroad, vehemently denied any involvement in the tragedy.

Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, shared on Twitter that Sam Larry is now in police custody and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Hundeyin stated, “Balogun Olamilekan Eletu, aka Sam Larry, is now in our custody. He is currently assisting with the ongoing investigation.”

Mohbad was a talented Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter based in Lagos. He was previously signed under Naira Marley’s Marlian Records before parting ways in 2022. Known for his chart-topping hits such as “Ponmo,” “Peace,” “Beast and Peace,” “Sorry,” “Feel Good,” and “KPK (Ko Por Ke)” (You Will Always Be Remembered) with Rexxie, he received three nominations for The Headies awards in 2022.

In October 2022, Mohbad accused his manager, Naira Marley, of assault, stating that his former boss had ordered people to attack him after he expressed his intention to seek a different manager for his music and business affairs. Following Mohbad’s passing, reports emerged that he had filed a police report in June 2023, alleging that Samson Erinfolami Balogun, a music promoter known as “Sam Larry” and a close associate of Naira Marley, had assaulted him and caused damages to his property.

The investigation into Mohbad’s death remains ongoing, with the arrest of Sam Larry as a significant development. The police are committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice for the late singer.
