Police ASP commits suicide

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Shafi’u Bawa, attached to the 61 Police Mobile Force (PMF), has been found dead in what is suspected to be a case of suicide in Kontagora, Niger State.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Saturday afternoon, with sources stating that the officer’s lifeless body was discovered hanging from the ceiling of his room.
His father, Mallam Usman Bawa, was the first to notice the incident before reporting it to the Kontagora Police Division.
Confirming the development, the Spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said, “On 8/2/2025 at about 2pm, it was reported that one ASP Shafiu Bawah of 61 PMF Kontagora committed suicide by hanging himself on the ceiling due to a yet-to-be-ascertained reason.”

SP Abiodun added that the officer’s body was removed and handed over to the family for burial.
He also stated that an investigation was ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic incident.
