Police in Bauchi kill armed robber during robbery operation, recover arms

Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have killed Abdu Shagari, a 24-year-old suspected armed robber during a confrontation along the Toro/Jos federal highway in the state.

Several other suspects also sustained gunshot injuries while fleeing the scene.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday said operatives responded swiftly to a distress call reporting that a gang of armed robbers had blocked the highway and were robbing motorists on June 4, 2025.

He added that a tactical team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Toro Division, in collaboration with auxiliary security personnel were mobilised to the scene.

Upon arrival, Wakil said the officers engaged the suspects in a fierce gun battle but due to the superior firepower of the operatives, the robbers were forced to disperse in chaos, resulting in several sustaining bullet injuries

“Among the assailants, one individual was fatally injured and has been identified as Abdu Shagari, a 24-year-old male, who later succumbed to his injuries,” Wakil added.

The PPRO said Shagari’s body was transported to Toro General Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed his death.

The suspect’s remains have been handed over to the Social Welfare Department for appropriate burial arrangements.

Police listed items recovered from the deceased as 1 knife, 1 stick, 2 sachets of rubber solution, 2 cigarette stubs as well as 1 flashlight.

Wakil added that investigations were ongoing to track down and arrest the remaining suspects involved in the robbery.
