President Bola Tinubu suspends CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele

President Bola Tinubu has taken the decision to suspend the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, with immediate effect.

The announcement was made through a statement by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The statement read as follows: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended Mr. Godwin Emefiele, CFR, the Governor of the Central Bank, from office with immediate effect. This action is a result of the ongoing investigation into his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.”

As per the directive, Mr. Emefiele has been instructed to promptly hand over the responsibilities of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will assume the role of Acting Governor of the Central Bank until the investigation and reforms are concluded.
