Russia gov’t to supply 50,000 tonnes of grain to Africa

Story from Christine TOBECHUKWU

President of Russia,Vladimir Putin says Russia will freely supply African countries with 25,000 to 50,000 tonnes of grains in four months time.

According to Putin, this is to cushion the effect of food insecurity in these zones while working towards food sovereignty.

President Putin says the grains will be shipped freely into these African countries. According to him, the African countries are Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Somalia and Eritrea.

He mentioned this in his opening remarks at the second Russia-Africa Summit 2023, which is currently taking place in St. Petersburg, Russia, with African leaders, academics, and media.

Putin had earlier promised to improve ties with African nations in a number of areas by providing free grain supplies to the continent in an effort to combat food shortages.

The summits, which are slated for St. Petersburg, Russia, on July 27 and 28, aim to improve ties between Russia and Africa by identifying key areas for cooperation in the ensuing decades of the twenty-first century.
