Wike declares public holiday, movement restriction ahead of FCT council elections The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared Friday, February 20, 2026, a work-free day and announced a restriction of movement across the territory in preparation for the upcoming Area Council elections. In a special nationwide broadcast on Thursday, the minister disclosed that movement within the FCT would be restricted from 8 p.m. on Friday until 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, to ensure a smooth and orderly electoral process.
