UNICEF condemns sentence of 13-year-old boy in Kano, wants it reversed 

Story from Kenneth AFOR, Lagos The United Nations Children's Fund, (UNICEF) has on Wednesday condemned the sentencing of a 13-year-old boy, Omar Farouq in Kano State, by a Sharia Court. The organisation termed the action wrong and, therefore, urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to urgently look into the case with a view of reversing the sentence. This was conveyed in a statement by UNICEF's County Representative, Peter Hawkins. Farouq was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on the 10th of August for blasphemy with menial labour.
