Trailer crushes 2 vigilantes to death

Two men have tragically died after being crushed by a trailer in Benin City, Edo State.

According to reports, the deceased were members of a vigilante group before their demise.

The incident reportedly happened in the early hours of Tuesday, April 29, 2025 in front of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Benin City, Edo state.

An eyewitness, who confirmed the incident, noted that the deceased were on a motorcycle when they got run over by a trailer, which crushed them instantly and sped off.

The witness added that one of the victims was identified as Mustapha through his identity card, while the other had his head completely crushed.

The witness said; “The accident happened all of a sudden. The trailer was on its way to Lagos and before we realised what was happening, the men were lying on the road lifeless with their heads crushed,”

“No one could say if the vigilantes were trying to stop the trailer when the accident happened. It is so sad that these men had to lose their lives in this manner.”

Also confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command, Moses Yamu said;

“It is true that the accident happened and that the men died in the process. However, I am waiting for more information from the DPO of the area who is on official duty,”

The remains of the victims were deposited at the morgue of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
