World Toilet Day: Yobe Governor bags Open Defecation Free award
World Toilet Organisation (WTO), a Singapore-based Non-Governmental organisation (NGO), has honoured Governor Mai Mala Buni CON, of Yobe State with the National Open Defecation Free (ODF) Achievement Award in appreciation of his commitment to the fight against ‘Open Defecation’ in the state.
According to a statement signed by Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, DG, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, the award was presented in Abuja at the 2022 World Toilet Summit, hosted by Nigeria.

The organisation said Governor Buni and others were honoured for the improvement in curbing open defecation in their respective states.

“The awards are in recognition of your giant strides in combating open defecation in your respective states, ” WTO said.
The organisation also honoured President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu, the United Nations Deputy Secretary General, Amina Mohammed and other state governors for their efforts in the fight against open defecation.
The summit was attended by the World Bank and UNICEF among other key stakeholders in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.
World Toilet Day is usually observed every 19th November of the year to create awareness on how to tackle the global sanitation crisis and open defecation.
