Yobe organises 1st mini trade fair to boost local businesses (Pictures)

In an unrelenting effort to empower local enterprises and stimulate economic development, the Yobe State Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Tourism, and Solid Minerals, in collaboration with Jalayi Traders Company, inaugurated a one-month maiden mini trade fair at the Ibrahim Geidam Ultra Modern Market in Damaturu.

The event, planned to showcase homegrown businesses and innovations, attracted entrepreneurs from diverse sectors, including agriculture, textiles, handicrafts, and technology.

Inaugurating the mini trade fair on Thursday, which will last for 30 days, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni said the event underscored the administration’s dedication to driving economic growth and fostering collaboration.

Represented by the Commissioner, Ministry of Commerce, Alhaji Kaigama Umar, the governor disclosed that the trade fair is a strategic platform to elevate the state’s local businesses, connect producers with markets, and inspire innovation.

He emphasised the state government’s commitment to reducing unemployment and poverty by nurturing small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“Governor Buni’s policies have laid a strong foundation for industrial and agricultural revitalisation. This event aligns with his vision to position Yobe as a hub of innovation and self-reliance,” said the Commerce Commissioner.

Earlier in his welcome address, the President of the Yobe State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, Aji Sulaiman, stated that the theme of the Mini Trade Fair is “Boosting the Economic Activities of Yobe State through Modern Market Development”.

Represented by the Director of Commerce, Mai Musa Kagu, Sulaiman explained that the theme clearly reflects the present administration’s vision, careful planning, and timely interventions, which have led to the development of modern markets and other critical business infrastructure across the state.

He added, “By boosting economic activities, these modern markets, the first of their kind in Nigeria, are designed to accommodate all categories of businesses, irrespective of their type, size, or capital base.”
