Yobe philanthropist enrolls 220 IDPs pupils, returnees

Story from Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu

Alhaji Nuhu Hassan, a Philanthropist, and Chairman of the North-East Commodity Association (NECA) has financed the enrollment of 220 pupils of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and returnees in Yobe.

Speaking at the occasion of the enrollment on Tuesday in Gujba Local government, Hassan said, “We are targeting 220 pupils in 3 communities of Ambiya Tasha, Sharhori and Gujba town”.

He said the gesture was meant to assist the children of the less privileged, who were mostly IDPs and returnees affected by the activities of Boko Haram insurgents in the state.

The materials distributed to the enrollees according to him include exercise books, uniforms, footwear, school bags among others.

Hassan also assured that the gesture would be extended to more communities within the state.

Dr Sani Idris, the Yobe State Commissioner for Basic Education expressed gratitude on behalf of the state government, saying the Philanthropist’s generosity had come at no better time than now.

The Commissioner, represented by Alhaji Modu Mustapha, the Director of Schools Services, also enjoined others to emulate Hassan, saying that education is everyone’s business as the government alone could not shoulder the responsibility.

Alhaji Mustapha Muktar, the District Head of Katarko said the effort was commendable and highly appreciated by the benefiting Communities.

He said the efforts of Hassan would assist the recovery process of the communities ravaged by the Boko Haram activities.

While calling on parents to always enroll their children into schools, Muktar enjoined well-meaning individuals, non-governmental organisations, and associations to invest in education.
