Yobe Security Sweep: Alcohol destroyed, 92 arrested

The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Fika LGA in Yobe State, Hajiya Halima Kyari Joda, collaborated with security agencies, including Hisbah and traditional leaders, to carry out an operation in Ngalda village.

The aim was to address the issue of illicit dance entertainment, locally known as “Gidan Gala,” and the sale of alcohol that was negatively impacting the community, particularly the education of their children.

On Monday, the council chairman led the joint operation comprising NSCDC, JTF, DSS, NPF, Hisba, and vigilantes.

During the operation, they confiscated 22 cartons of alcohol and closed down Gala centres in Ngalda.

Additionally, the authorities arrested a total of 92 suspects engaged in various criminal activities, such as selling alcohol, selling and smoking of Indian hemp, and selling knives, bows, and arrows. The suspects included 45 men and 47 women.

Ngalda town was previously known for its business and summer farming activities. However, the recent surge in illicit entertainment and illegal activities raised concerns among the residents, prompting the authorities to take decisive action.

The joint efforts of the security agencies, local government, and concerned citizens have resulted in curbing these illegal activities and preserving the well-being and future of the community.
