Zamfara APC denies alleged plan to bribe tribunal judges, calls for probe

The Zamfara State All Progressives Congress (APC) has vehemently refuted allegations of any involvement in a plan to bribe election petition tribunal judges, as claimed by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Furthermore, the APC has denied any alleged move to mobilize members of the state House of Assembly to impeach Governor Dauda Lawal, as purportedly mentioned in a leaked audio by an individual named Anas Anka.

In a swift response released to the press in Gusau on Wednesday, Yusuf Idris, the APC State Publicity Secretary, stated that Anas Anka has never been a supporter or a card-carrying member of the APC in the state.

Additionally, the APC has called upon all relevant security agencies to investigate and reveal the source behind the viral audio clip, where Anka allegedly discussed being instructed to bribe the judges of the election petition tribunal in favor of the party.

Here is the full statement:

PDP’S ATTEMPT TO INTIMIDATE ZAMFARA ELECTION PETITION TRIBUNAL THROUGH CALCULATED FRIVOLOUS UNGUARDED UTTERANCES BY ONE ANAS ANKA

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara has become aware of a calculated plot by the PDP and its structure in the state to tarnish the good image of the APC in Zamfara and the nation, using an acquaintance of Governor Dauda Lawal Dare and a journalist named Anas Sani Anka, the Chief Executive Officer of Thunder Blowers online media in the state.

First and foremost, it is important to note that Anas openly proclaimed in the audio that he is a friend of Governor Dauda, which speaks volumes about his stance towards the APC and its stakeholders.

It is a matter of public record that Thunder Blowers was solely financed by the current governor of the state, Dauda Lawal Dare, to serve his political agenda during the tenure of Governor Bello Matawalle. Furthermore, the operational vehicle of Thunder Blowers was donated by Lawal Dare, and even the office space utilized by the media outlet is owned by Dauda and not by any APC official in the state.

It must be categorically stated that Anas Sani Anka is not a card-carrying member or a supporter of the APC in any way. He does not hold any executive position within the party, nor has he ever held a political appointment under the APC government. Therefore, he has no authority to speak on behalf of the APC.

We firmly believe that the PDP, upon realizing that the tribunal process is leaning towards the APC reclaiming its mandate, is resorting to desperate measures to disrupt the proceedings. If there were any misconduct, the APC members in the state House of Assembly, who hold a majority, would have been aware and taken appropriate action.

Furthermore, it should be noted that the individual Anas claimed to have collected money from, Distinguished Senator Abdul Aziz Yari, has been out of the country for quite some time. This indicates that the PDP is attempting to implicate him in their unjust accusations.

When the INEC awarded the governorship seat to the PDP after the election, as well as when the tribunal handed the PDP the Maradun II state House of Assembly, we accepted these decisions without raising allegations of injustice to obstruct the tribunal’s proceedings. The PDP must understand that the Nigerian judiciary cannot be intimidated with baseless allegations.

We call upon the relevant security agencies to uncover the identities of all those involved in this cowardly act, including the person who made the recording, as they conspired to carry out the directives of their paymasters in the PDP. They must be held accountable without delay.

The PDP needs to acknowledge that the judiciary is an independent body and that no amount of intimidation or abuse will deter it from delivering justice to all Nigerian citizens, regardless of their religion or political affiliation.

We urge our supporters in the state to remain calm and trust in the Nigerian judiciary. We are confident that justice will be served, and we will reclaim our stolen mandate, which was manipulated by the cabal and some unpatriotic individuals during the last governorship elections in the state.

Yours sincerely,

Yusuf Idris
APC Publicity Secretary
Zamfara State
