Borno Police nab 78 suspects over various offences

The Borno State Police Command in Maiduguri, led by Police Commissioner Yusufu Lawal, has apprehended 78 suspects involved in various crimes.

Among them was a wanted criminal linked to a Culpable Homicide case reported in May 2023.

The Commissioner revealed his work plan for policing excellence, which focuses on proactive crime prevention and community engagement.

He added that one incident involved the stabbing of a Police Constable, who later succumbed to injuries, adding that police arrested ten suspects based on video evidence obtained from a good Samaritan.

He stated, “To curb youth involvement in violent crimes and criminal activities, the police conducted joint raids at vulnerable points and hotspots, leading to the arrest of 78 suspects, including the wanted criminal.”

In another successful operation, a syndicate of young women was arrested for shoplifting in the Dala area, Maiduguri.

It was gathered that they had stolen provisions and food items from two shops and concealed them under their garments, later loading them into a waiting tricycle, while their male accomplice was arrested.

Additionally, the police arrested a group of hoodlums who snatched a phone from someone in GSM Market Bulumkutu, Maiduguri, using a Keke Napep tricycle for their criminal acts.

In another development, the Commissioner advised parents to monitor their children’s associations and warned about the negative influence of certain peer groups.

While urging religious leaders, community elders, and stakeholders to provide timely information about criminal activities in their neighbourhoods.
